Company Spotlight: Kappi

The Beginnings

After tuning in to an episode of ABC’s War on Waste, Fred and Em, a married couple, were inspired to establish Kappi, an online platform that offers a range of stylish, plastic-free products for households.

Consider the sheer amount of waste that ends up in landfills due to the use of cheap, disposable plastic razors, single-use makeup wipes, and disposable diapers. It’s truly staggering. However, making a simple switch can have a tremendous impact.

Kappi provides reusable safety razors in matte gold, rose gold, and black, priced at $59.95. They also offer reusable cloth diapers for $34.95 and machine-washable organic bamboo and cotton makeup remover pads for $19.95.

For added convenience, you can opt for bundle packs that include popular items such as reusable ziplock bags and silicone stretch lids.

Vision

At Kappi, our vision is to eradicate single-use plastic products from households worldwide.

The Kappi Principles

1. Minimize Waste

Take sustainable steps that suit your lifestyle. We don’t expect you to go from zero to hero overnight. Instead, we encourage consistent small changes. There are numerous adjustments and swaps you can make to lessen your environmental impact, and we are here to support you in getting started.

2. Plastic-Free Operations

We operate our business without the use of plastic. Working closely with our manufacturers, we ensure that plastic packaging is entirely eliminated from our supply chain. This commitment sometimes means paying higher prices to opt for non-plastic alternatives.

3. Education and Inspiration

We aim to provide valuable education and inspiration through our blog and social media channels, offering practical tips on reducing your environmental footprint. Furthermore, we seek to inspire our community by sharing our own sustainable lifestyle on our Instagram page and Facebook Community.

4. Giving Back

We contribute 1% of all our revenue to 1% for the Planet, an environmental non-profit organization dedicated to creating positive change.

Our Story

Greetings! We are Fred and Em, a dynamic husband and wife duo, partners in crime, and the founders of Kappi. We established Kappi to address the need for beautifully designed, highly functional, and reasonably priced alternatives to single-use plastics.

Our journey toward reducing our environmental impact began in early 2017. Prior to that, we believed we were doing our best by sorting our recycling, replacing incandescent lights with LEDs, and utilizing public transportation whenever possible. We patted ourselves on the back for these small changes. However, it wasn’t until we watched ABC’s War on Waste that we truly comprehended the magnitude of Australia’s waste crisis and the devastating consequences of mindlessly consuming single-use plastics on our natural environment.

Almost overnight, we became acutely aware of the excessive waste we were generating every week and embarked on a quest to find alternatives to common single-use plastic items. However, it proved challenging. Back then, most reusable alternatives were either unattractive, prohibitively expensive, or shockingly packaged in plastic!

Thus, Kappi was born out of our own desire for affordable, aesthetically pleasing, and practical alternatives. We set out to create products that we would proudly carry with us everywhere, products that seamlessly fit into our daily routines, products built to last a decade or

more with impeccable design and craftsmanship. Most importantly, we aimed to ensure that these products, at the end of their life cycle, would return to the earth without negatively impacting the overall health of our precious planet.

Throughout the years, Kappi has evolved, as have we. What initially started as a side project has now become Em’s full-time occupation. We are blessed with a fantastic team, and in July 2020, our wonderful son Archie joined our lives. Regardless of where this journey takes us, we make a solemn promise. Our commitment lies in our values rather than monetary gains. The products we offer and the brands we endorse will always uphold our principles. We will continue to design our own line of products, with no compromises, no shortcuts taken. Only the most durable, meticulously crafted, and fairly priced items on the market. This is our pledge to you and our planet.
